FAQs

What's the difference between Italy DNV and Residenza Elettiva?
Italy DNV is for active remote-work income — you earn from foreign clients while living in Italy. Residenza Elettiva is for passive income only — pensions, rentals, dividends, royalties. DNV permits work; Elettiva prohibits it. Different income proofs, different tax treatment.
Can I switch to the €100,000 flat-tax regime?
Yes — Article 24-bis is available to new Italian tax residents (must not have been Italian tax-resident in 9 of the preceding 10 years). Application is filed within the first tax year. We coordinate with an Italian tax advisor as part of setup.
How long until Italian citizenship?
10 years of continuous legal residence with no major absences. Italian descent (jure sanguinis) gives a faster path if applicable.
Do I need to buy property in Italy?
No — a long-term lease (12+ months, registered) satisfies the housing requirement for both visas. Many applicants buy after the first year, but it's not a prerequisite.
What is the permesso di soggiorno?
The Italian residence permit issued by the local Questura within 8 days of your arrival in Italy. The consular visa is initial (1 year); the permesso is renewable in 2- and 5-year tranches.
Can I bring family?
Both visas include family reunification. Italy DNV: spouse + dependent children under 18. Residenza Elettiva: spouse + dependent children + dependent parents, with income proof scaling (+20% spouse, +5% per child).
What if I have Italian descent?
Italian descent (jure sanguinis) is a separate accelerated route to citizenship — relevant for many US, Argentine, and Brazilian applicants whose ancestors emigrated from Italy. We assess eligibility in the initial consultation; if jure sanguinis works, it's typically the fastest path.
